PIMS currently supports diver safety as THE priority point within the program. By adhering to AAUS standards at a minimum, PIMS supports several thousand incident free scientific dives per year.

PIMS capabilities relating to diver safety include:

• Well developed and practiced remote rescue and accident management procedures
• A double-lock recompression chamber suitable for hyperbaric experimentation, testing of equipment, and training
• Diver training in rescue diving, accident management, first aid, CPR, and oxygen administration
