SCIENTIFIC ADMINISTRATION INTERNSHIP
Summary: General assistance with projects and databases relevant to the efficient and productive operation of the Florida Office.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
An unpaid intern will be expected to work between 8-10 hours per week and a paid intern will be expected to work between 10-15 hours per week depending upon their class schedule. Students will be supervised by the Administrative staff at the Perry Institute for Marine Science for work that could include (according to priority):
- Enter archived data into a project database.
- Organize, collect and maintain the publications and library as well as their corresponding databases according to the instruction of the Administrator.
- Organize digital and hard copy photographic library.
- Intern may also be asked to assist with research on various grant making organizations in reference to grant writing efforts by Perry Institute for Marine Science staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Student must be pursuing a college degree and have quality grades.
- Required Skills: Must be a self-starter and self-motivated. Excellent computer skills. Must be reliable and responsible. Accurate typing ability and data entry.
Helpful skills include:
- Database experience (MS Access / MS Excel / MS Outlook / Procite)
- Library skills
- Administrative experience and computer literacy in a variety of Microsoft (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Publisher) and Adobe software (Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator).
- Ability to handle multiple projects
To participate students must:
- be pursuing a college degree
- have quality grades and recommendations
- be able to work during normal business hours
