Sea Creatures Live!Operating advanced research and diving facilities on Lee Stocking Island (LSI), Bahamas, the Perry Institute for Marine Science (PIMS) offers a unique opportunity for students, teachers, and institutions to bridge the gap between research and education. PIMS actively supports experiential learning on Lee Stocking Island, offering an environment where students from the local community and from the Bahamas can interact with scientists and gain an inside look at on-going marine research. The challenge lies in bringing this sort of experience to those students unable to visit Lee Stocking Island. Many students in Palm Beach County will never have the opportunity to benefit from a field excursion where they can intimately learn about the critical issues facing the fragile tropical and subtropical habitats of the wider Caribbean region, including Florida. The Sea Creatures Live! Traveling Kiosk brings live underwater video streaming and continuous photo slide shows to all that encounter it. This innovative exhibit brings the marine environment to those disadvantaged students and the general public by its ability to reach the community in a public forum. To catch a glimpse of the underwater activities and research held at the John H. Perry, Jr. Caribbean Research Center visit Sea Creatures Live! Current Location - TBA Marine Environmental Awareness Art ExhibitOver 50 underwater photographs are on display for the Institute’s Marine Environmental Awareness Exhibit featuring a variety of images captured by distinguished photographers John Andrews, Kimberly Frye-Wayman, and Bob Vaccato. Designed to help raise awareness of the need for conservation and enhanced preservation of the continually threatened delicate underwater habitat and marine species, these works will be on permanent display at the Perry Institute for Marine Science, 100 North U.S. Highway 1, Suite 202, Jupiter, Florida. This exhibit is a great way to introduce the community to the important work being done to help protect fisheries and coral reef habitats that are so vital to the ecology of the Caribbean region.
